Finished Chanel!

Filed under: General — Karen @ 8:35 pm

Wow, this was quite some project. Let’s just say it did not go smoothly. I had a *lot* of trouble with the sleeve length. I would knit it a sleeve up to the right measurements (or so I thought), then block it and it would be a good 2-3 inches too long. So I would rip out the cap and part of the sleeve and re-knit. Only to block and find it it was *still* a good 2-3 inches too long. This should be physically impossible, but it happened. More times than I am allowing myself to remember. So then I decided, you know what? I’m not going to have enough yarn anyway. I’m going to do bracelet-length sleeves. So I knit it up like that. They were still longer than I would have liked. But the last time, I got smart, and rather than ripping from the top and re-knitting, I cut from the bottom and bound the raw edge off. Finally, the sleeves were the same length as each other, and a length that I wanted. (plus I had enough yarn to finish the project!)

Learning to do the crab-stitching was probably good for me, and it definitely gives a nice, finished look. I’m still having some issues with the front of the jacket curling in. Oh, and I added a hook-and-eye clasp at the very top to keep the collar closed and neat looking.

After all was said and done, I did end up with a piece of clothing I will wear, which is a good thing. I’m pretty much sworn off of big projects though. Being stressed out and frustrated by my hobby, which is supposed to be fun and relaxing, did not do much for my psyche. But I struggled through it and maybe I’m a better person for it? Maybe?

Now that that’s overwith, I’m going to finish up the nice, simple, stockinette Classic Sweater for Guys, and then maybe move on to my Honeymoon Camisole (which I’ve knit before, and enjoyed every minute of), and possibly some cable footies. Then again, maybe it’s time to do a little soaker knitting. It’s been so long, I’ve forgotten my pattern!
