Koolsheep’s knit blog

5 year hiatus and she’s back!

I wouldn’t say I haven’t knit *anything* in the past 5 years, but I definitely haven’t knit anything clothing-wise. See, I have a confession to make. Every piece of clothing I’ve ever knit for myself has ended up at Goodwill. At the end of the day, I find I just don’t wear these things I make. Either they don’t fit quite right, or the color’s not really something I want to wear…

So I swore off making clothing. It just wasn’t worth the aggravation, time, money only to get a result that was never quite right. It shouldn’t be a surprise. After all, when I go shopping, I often walk out empty handed after trying on a bunch of clothes. Or I’ll even get something home and then decide I don’t want it anymore and then return it.

Also, I’ve found in the past few years that I can’t knit with anything that contains even a smidgen of wool in it. It makes me itchy. So for 5 years now it’s been scarves, dishcloths, and a few pairs of socks (one of which didn’t get finished because of the wool sensitivity.)

But then recently, I was looking for a simply, slightly oversized, cream-colored sweater. Sounds easy. Can’t be found. And I’ve been knitting a few infinity scarves with Lion Brand’s Hometown yarn — super bulky, super soft acrylic. It makes a lovely, thick fabric. And I thought, maybe a simple top-down raglan sweater? It would knit up so quickly. I had some doubts about the bulkiness, but I knew the color and softness were good.

So I just pulled the trigger. Picked the yarn up at Joann’s Friday night and finished the sweater on Sunday. I still went through some existential angst on whether I *really* liked the finished product or not, but I think that yes, I do like it, and yes, I think I’ll actually wear it!
